Looking for Help with Phobias?

Hypnotherapy & Coaching Sessions in Stroud (Nailsworth), Bristol or Online

Experiencing a level of apprehension before doing something in some circumstances is very healthy. After all, fear is a necessary part of self-preservation.

Acting as a warning system, fear and anxiety make us aware of a threat or danger to our life or well-being. Indeed, for the person suffering from a phobia, their fear is a very real thing, which may in the moment feel uncontrollable.

However, the warning is not real, there is no actual impending danger, and this is what hypnotherapy for phobia can help with; to learn a measured and more desirable response pattern to things that are standing in your way.

Looking for Help with Phobias in Stroud (Nailsworth) & Bristol?

If so, then you’ve come to the right place. We have a modern, very effective and comfortable technique called ‘Rewind’ which typically takes up to four sessions, and does not involve form of direct exposure.

The phobic response can be so endemic that it effectively pervades many areas of the person’s life, which to the outside observer may seem unrelated. It can stop them from doing the simplest and most straightforward of tasks, and to behaviour, which is way beyond what is considered healthy.

Is your Phobia really a problem?

Phobias become a problem when they start to get in the way. But they can be very extreme and at the same time not be a problem. A fear of open water is perhaps not such an issue to somebody who lives a perfectly happy land locked life.

On the other hand, if a fear becomes generalised and pervades other areas of life then dealing with it can have a huge positive effect on all aspects of life. You are the best judge of whether or not you need help with phobias.

How does Hypnotherapy for Phobias work?

Hypnotherapy for Phobia generally consists of three distinct parts, which are usually spread over a 4 week period. There is no kind of physical shock or exposure therapy used in the help with phobias Bristol and Gloucestershire that we offer.

It is important to note, that the number of sessions can increase if your levels of general anxiety are generally high. In this case, it is normal to work with helping you with your general anxiety before dealing with the phobic reaction.

Practicing the Fear Response makes matters worse, that's why you should instead practice the opposite = Relaxation.

Three stages of progress

The first part introduces you to the process of hypnosis and practicing positive habits, which include relaxation.

Next, we continue to a process called ‘Rewind’. This is where we help you to re-play an instance of the phobic episode in your mind, whilst you are in an extremely relaxed and detached state. The purpose of this is to activate the ‘problem area’, and repeat this imagined exposure until the mind is no longer sensitive to it. You could say that the mind gets bored of the issue.

Finally, we use a technique called ‘Reframe’ to replace the former fear template with a happier and more positive one.
