Anxiety: This symptom of OCD can be attached to several other symptoms such as perfectionism, looming vulnerability and chronic worrying. Anxiety is experienced when other symptoms or criteria are not met. The OCD sufferer may believe that something bad will happen if they do not act or complete a task in a certain way, or act on their compulsion. Anxiety, Depression, Anger & Stress are the core issues we help using Hypnotherapy.

Avoidance: An OCD symptom where the OCD sufferer will go to great lengths to avoid people, places, and objects, which they perceive as triggers for their OCD.

Chronic Worrying: Attached also to depression and anxiety, the chronic worry is experienced similarly to ‘looming vulnerability’ (see below).

Doubtfulness: Of all the symptoms of OCD, doubtfulness is the one which sits at the heart of all obsessive compulsive tendencies and types of ocd.

Guilt: Constantly returning to some kind of negative past experience or idea.  This will greatly increase the obsessive and anxious nature of how people do things, and is very stressful.

Irritability: When we are over-stressed, we operate more within the parameters of the primitive brain, and it’s fight flight response.  Irritablility is a form of mild alert and tendency towards anger.

The ‘Just Right’ feeling: A feeling only the sufferer can identify. They know it when the experience it. Tasks cannot be completed or sometimes even started until the feeling is just right. Often observed in sufferer’s of Tourette’s Syndrome.

Looming Vulnerability: This OCD symptom can be described as a tendency to perceive dangers in things, which are quickly evolving and advancing. The dangers may be real or imaginary and are usually exaggerated.

Magical Thinking: Typified by a fear that thinking about something bad will influence or even cause a negative outcome. This symptom of OCD it at odds with conventional laws of causality.

Perfectionism: Behaviours or rituals must be carried out to perceived perfection. Nerves and doubt pertaining to shortfalls in perceived performance may lead to mistakes. This symptom of OCD can lead to superstitiously driven fears and anxiety that something bad may happen if mistakes are made. Another OCD perfectionism symptom can be described as a need for closure, where sufferers must fully complete a task before moving on to another. Distraction and discomfort would be felt if they started something else before completing their first task. These OCD symptoms can apply to both mental and physical tasks.

Persistent Unwanted or Intrusive Thoughts:

Stress: OCD tendencies are inherently stressful, as they place unnecessary demands on the sufferer. The anxiety, which OCD sufferers experience, is a cause of stress in itself. For example, non-completion of compulsions leads to anxiety, which in turn is perceived as stress.
